Different Diet Types
When you stop being SAD (Standard American Diet) and/or get off the hugely popular Seefood Diet (See food, eat food), you have many options that are all huge improvements. Here are many of today's popular diets:
Vegetarian
Vegetarians exclude meat from their diet.
Vegan
Veganism is a step beyond Vegetarianism. Vegans exclude all animal products from their diet, including eggs and honey.
Pescatarian
Pescatarians are Vegetarians who include Seafood in their diet.
Gluten-Free
Gluten is a catch-all term for the gliadin protein and other compounds found in grains, and people on a Gluten-Free Diet avoid all foods that contain Gluten.
Paleo/Primal/Caveman
The Paleo/Primal diet is based on the principle that people should eat what their bodies have evolved to eat, and that humans have not evolved to eat many foods made possible by the agricultural revolution, and so they are excluded from the Paleo/Primal/Caveman Diet. evolution is much slower than human progress, and so many modern foods are excluded from this diet.
Ketogenic
The Ketogenic diet is a diet that makes the body undergo Ketosis, the term for when the body burns parts of fats called Ketones instead of the carbohydrate Glucose for fuel. It is a high fat low carb diet.
AID
The Ainti-Inflammatory Diet is based on the philosophy that eating to avoid inflammation optimizes health and minimizes chance of contracting chronic diseases
Nut-Free
People who are allergic to Tree Nuts follow a Tree Nut-Free Diet
Low Carb
Advocates of a low carb diet restrict their carbohydrate intake as a method of weight loss/weight management.
Slow Carb
Popularised by Tim Ferriss' The 4-Hour Body, followers of the slow carb diet focus on eating foods with low glycemic indexes.
Atkins
The Atkins Diet is a low-carbohydrate diet based on the lifetime work of Dr. Robert Atkins. It is very similar to the Ketogenic diet.
Intermittent Fasting
There are many variations of the timing and length of fasts in an intermittent fasting diet, but they all require periods of complete fasting, with the goals being wight loss/weight maintenance and health optimization.
Raw Foods
People on a Faw Food Diet only eat uncooked, unprocessed foods. This can include meat such as sashimi, carpaccio and tartare.
Seasonal
People who eat seasonally only purchase produce which naturally grows during the time of year it is purchased.
Local
Those who eat locally grown food minimize their carbon footprint, eat seasonally available produce, support their local economy and environment, promote a safer food supply and enjoy fresher food with more flavor and higher levels of nutrients than food which has traveled across greater distances over longer periods of time, and enjoy year long variety.
Standard American Diet
This is the standard diet of an average American. It is focused on convenience and cost, as opposed to health benefits and value.
So, which diet is best for you? Everyone needs to do their own thinking and research about why they are eating the way they are. Remember, every bite in your mouth is a vote for that food system.

Don't count calories and try to play that fool's game: what your body needs is various nutrients from different plants and animals.
